If you know me pretty well, you may laugh: I didn’t used to think I had wanderlust. Despite studying abroad in Madrid and transferring schools, I didn’t really realize how much I loved change and loved to travel until … I set it as a goal for the last year to travel less, to enjoy my new home in Orange County more. I justified my beach house rent by saying it’d be a permanent vacation.
That didn’t happen. I took a trip every single month of 2013, and my schedule is shaping up similarly for 2014 (although there may not be FIVE Aspen trips in this go round). There’s no reason to fight something that keeps proving itself important, so instead, I moved into an apartment with a roommate—something I haven’t had in quite some time, and was convinced I wouldn’t have again.
So far, it’s working out well, and I’m excited to have the breathing room to take big trips (this year so far: Aspen, New Orleans, Puerto Rico, and Scotland on tap). Where should I go for a birthday trip? And I’d love to visit these local-ish destinations: San Fran, Big Bear, Rosarita, Catalina … and then next winter Mammoth and Jackson Hole and … see?
Setting goals and evaluating their efficacy is important in all aspects of life.
Anyone have recs on Scotland?? Here’s one idea (Fingal’s Cave via pinterest):
