Two To Try: Silhouette Sushi and Tacodeli

Tried two new restaurants last night and for lunch today, and both were stellar!

Silhouette Sushi: a hidden gem, “cheap eats ’08” by citysearch.com
Chances are you’ve walked past Silhouette and not noticed it, or you’ve seen it and never known what it was. Apparently downtown businessmen know all about it, but downtown revelers looking for a bite before hitting the clubs are missing out. We happened by on Thursday, when an all-day student happy hour lowers some 4-5 dollar rolls down to an astonishing $3 with a student ID. Sweet!
Everthing else is reasonably priced, lower-range rolls at $5, spider rolls at $10, and a select few with lots of ingredients in the $14 range. The scallop roll ($6) was a little, well, sour, but the rest were fresh and delicious. The eel avocado roll was outstanding. Our waitress was also excellent: sweet and the right amount attentive. The ambiance was good: one of my companions wanted to buy the wall art and its copyright.

Tacodeli: apparently everyone else already knows it’s awesome
I got three very different tacos, and all were delicious. My family got various types of chicken and beef tacos and they all loved theirs. The menu is extensive but easy to follow, most of the choices being tacos, and there are plenty of tasty vegetarian and fish options.
The Heather was the standout for me: queso fundido, black beans, guacamole and lettuce all melded together into a taste sensation! I didn’t know if it was the guac or the queso fundido that was lending the conglomerate its flavor, then I thought it might be the black beans … so I finally decided that it was just genius and I’d leave it at that. No wonder it says “wow” on the menu after the Heather’s description.
The new special taco, the Ahi Tuna, served with avocado and wasabi soy sauce, strangely enough appeared to be thoroughly cooked. It was tasty, so I can’t really complain, but I was curious about it. The Veggie taco (um, all veggies) was okay, but less impressive than the other two. We went right at lunch time and the place was packed with NI and IBM staffers on their lunchbreaks, but our food still came out quickly. Hooray Tacodeli!
