When I first visited Aspen over a year ago (in February), there was Roaring Fork CrossFit. Now, there’s Roaring Fork, Aspen, Bonedale, Glenwood Springs, and New Castle—OH, and my new BlissFits Boot Camp. The valley has exploded with CrossFit! The gyms all get together once a month to host a competition with 2 WODs.
This is the first Throwdown I’ve attended, and it was a blast. I loved seeing the old friends I had made last year (they’re ALL trainers or gym owners now!) and had fun competing. The first workout was Sectional WOD 11.5 (AMRAP 20 minutes: 5 power clean (100#), 10 toes-to-bar, 15 wallball (14#). Like all the workouts before it, it features 2 things I am awesome at (power cleans and wallballs) and 1 thing that I am god-awful horrible no good at in toes-to-bar. Not even mediocre at. But awful at. To be honest, I had never even DONE a toes-to-bar before today.
Well, I did 70. The workout was pretty frustrating, because I finished with only 7 rounds and 5 cleans but the toes-to-bar took me SO LONG. Plus my hands ripped, but in a weird way: I just formed blood blisters that exploded, which is slightly better than rips because there’s no raw, exposed skin. Gross.
The second workout was a 2K row. Boring but powered through it, much slower than I did at last year’s sectionals.
Thanks to Aspen CrossFit for hosting! It was awesome to see everyone, and I’ll be back—WITH BlissFits competitors!! 🙂
