Monday afternoon, the Compound went for a walk to grab coffee from Tiny’s. Nali went. RonRon went (to the corner anyway, with a loud mew of protest). We weren’t gone but 15 minutes, but the fresh air, sunshine, and laughter was completely rejuvenating.
I have long worked remotely and love it, but these casual, connective minutes are the moments you miss with coworkers or even randos at a coffeeshop. Brief chats. Short face to face connection. I’m lucky enough to live next door to people I love and want to hang out with. But the people who aren’t so lucky will inevitably face lasting effects from this isolation.
This week’s grateful moments:
Coffee on my front porch swing.
Wearing a hoodie and shorts on early morning walks … it’s not strictly necessary but the weather is perfect for it.
Mowing my lawn.
Catching up with Teasy.
Breaking out of planning mode and into fun mode as we started to record the podcast.
A lil’ bulletin board strip in my office.
Book Club. Opening book club with a great dating story. Actually discussing the badass book (Say Nothing). Missing the girlfriends in book club.
Looking down at my bare feet on my driveway while lifting.
This past weekend was full of lovely lil moments as well: sitting under the oak trees listening to live music reading my book sipping wine in Gruene. Wandering the Pearl farmers market with my childhood bestie, snagging Madge’s beyond-fabulous fermented bloody mary mix and putting it into my ‘Life is Meant to Be Meshy’ tote bag from my work wife. Getting ready for a wedding—putting on makeup, curling my hair, dress and heels. A breeze blowing through the open-air chapel as a couple pledged to love each other forever and ever.
The little, simple moments are so special. So peaceful. So perfect.
So grateful.
