We recently moved from ABC, home of Nature’s Garage Gym CrossFit ABC123 to downtown Aspen. I was afraid there’d be no more rock-hoisting, river-hopping, boulder-jumping workouts, but I need not have worried. This IS Aspen, after all.
Yesterday, I ran gassers on the rugby field across the street from our new apartment. Particularly interesting as the rugby team was practicing next to me and commenting on my every move during my warmup: “she’s doing a lunge. oh, she’s adding a twist to the lunge. a handstand?! she’s doing a handstand?!” But nonetheless, I sprinted. Nali sprinted. Everyone sprinted!
Today, I wanted a little toughness, and sometimes I get a little nostalgic for SicFit Austin, the .com class, and the unpredictability of not planning your own workouts. Luckily for me, SicFit Austin ran this post about their workout today and I decided I could totally tabata it up!
Then, I found this. I sighed aloud, “Woooooow. What a gem!”
A river. Just like I used to work out by.
With a flat, grassy patch nearby. Perfect for pushups. And sprinting. It’s also basically an oly-lifting platform with a little bit of cushion. If I take off my shoes it’s probably the same net equivalent as lifting on a regular gym floor.
… AND a rock field! Look at all those weights!! I’ve got deadlift size and dumbbell size and snatch size and every size of rock I ever wanted!
Seriously. Aspen is so beautiful sometimes you just want to squeeze it. Also, check out those sweet boulders for box jumping!
Meet the NEW Nature’s Garage Gym/Gem. It’s a Gem.
Where I performed a WOD that looked like this:
Tabata (20:10 x 8)
Jumping lunges: 16 all the way (1 rep= 1 leg)
Pushups 10-9-8-7-7-7-7-7
Rock snatch 4 all the way
1-arm OH press (4 R, 4 L) 8 all the way
How much do you love my new CrossFit Nature’s Garage Gym/Gem?!
