The King Comes to Town (Hello, George Strait)

I have wanted to see George Strait in concert since I’ve listened to country music. I’m gonna go ahead and estimate that at 13+ years (late music bloomer). And now he’s hitting Austin, er, Cedar Park! The Cedar Park Center’s grand opening concert features the King of Country. Did anyone even know they were building a Cedar Park Center?

Anyway, tickets for the kick-off event go on sale at 10am this Saturday at all Ticketmaster outlets, by phone at 800.745.3000, and online at www.ticketmaster.com and www.cedarparkcenter.com. Since I’m doing the Spartan 300 Challenge at 8am (waaaaa), I’ll be up in plenty of time to snag tix!

The new Cedar Park Center will also be home to a minor league hockey team, the dev team of the Dallas Stars called the Texas Stars: t is official. The Texas Stars were formally granted a limited membership to begin play in the American Hockey League for the 2009-10 season. The limited membership is conditioned on the club completing the purchase of an AHL franchise within one year.

The Dallas Stars will hold a Rookie Camp in Frisco, Tex., from July 6-11. Many of the players at the camp will probably see action for the Texas Stars as their development progresses. The Dallas Stars 2009 Training Camp is scheduled to begin on Sept. 11 in Frisco, Tex., followed by the Texas Stars’ first-ever Training Camp that will begin on September 22nd in Cedar Park, Texas.

More details on the Cedar Park Center from the press release:

Located at the intersection of New Hope Drive and Toll Road 183A, north of Austin, Cedar Park Center will be a multi-use facility, with 6,800 seats available for hockey and 8,700 for concerts and other events. The Center will have 24 suites (including four party suites) and 545 club seats with a private club lounge. A retail site of 17 acres is adjacent to the facility grounds for mixed-use development that will include 91,000 square feet for retail and 91,000 square feet for commercial, developed by Hicks Cedar Park, LLC.

We get badass country music AND a hockey team that doesn’t play in an un-climate-controlled-box (ahem Ice Bats)?! Love it. A reason besides Hayashi to visit Cedar Park.
