Whew, we made it from Austin to Aspen in right around 19 hours, including stops. Nali was drugged, so she was drowsy and didn’t pant the whole way. She did act sort of drunk when we got her out of the car, it was really funny. Awesome!
That Ripped Guy of Mine(TM) and I stopped every few hours, and for about the first half of the trip (9 hours), we were doing some small sprints and star jumps and squats each time we stopped. But as the trip wore on, the stops were less energetic. At about 3am, with about an hour left of driving, we were both exhausted, but me less so than him, so we did a Chinese fire drill at a stop light to switch drivers and before getting in I did three star jumps, just to get the blood flowing.
(I wish this is where my star jump occured, alas, it was on a feeder to a highway in the dark)
It worked! I didn’t feel drowsy and we made it to Aspen!
For people trying to eat Paleo or at least healthy while they travel, let me just say this: tuna. I had tuna salad for breakfast from Einstein Brothers Bagels and tuna salad for lunch from Subway. Luckily, we found a Chipotle for dinner and I rocked some carnitas + guac (YUM)! Good snacks were pistachios and a hot dill pickle. If you can find free range beef jerky, snag some of that too (I’m still on the hunt for this awesome paper-thin kind we got on the first drive up, but I can’t find the right gas station again! so sad). As for energy drinks? Unsweetened tea is your friends, kids.
