Shoes for CrossFittin’

Sometimes it’s tough to find a shoe for CrossFit that can meet all your needs: not only are they cute, but they NEED to be functional for running and lifting. Sure, you have your running shoes, your casual sneaks, maybe even your Vibrams, but what shoe can you wear that’ll meet any WOD’s demands?

The Nike dunk.

nike Dunks (low) $78

The Dunks provide a stable base without a lot of contour–perfect for lifting heavy–plus a smidgeon of cushion for running outside. I recently rediscovered my dunks (hand-me-downs from a college buddy) and started wearing them for workouts, and I’m really excited to have discovered the Holy Grail. After all, I used to be one of those who wore Vibrams, kept my nike lunartrainers in the car, and occasionally wore other running shoes.

lunartrainer- GREAT for running, not great for crossfit

If you want to specialize in shoe selections, here’s a breakdown of recommendations:

Traditional weightlifting shoes: no cushion, flat/stable bottoms so your body alignment doesn’t get out of whack

Pendlay and Do-Win shoes from $69-$119

adidas weightlifting shoes $149

converse $45 – good because they have almost no cushioning and contouring, allowing your body alignment to remain natural during heavy lifts

Vibram Five Fingers (mimic being barefoot): great for lifting, good for running shorter distances, terrible for box jumps
