I could have sworn I posted this review here, but a google revealed nothing, so maybe I just tweeted about it. These are obviously a hot topic in the CrossFit community because Reebok is sponsoring our awesome hardcore CrossFit Games while simultaneously promoting toning shoes … I don’t think it’s an oxy-moron, I think it’s smart product diversification. But anyway, here’s the review:
Like many other workout snobs, I turned up my nosed at the mere thought of EasyTone toning shoes. C’mon, just hit the gym or the trail, people! But then they introduced the Freestyle Hi version, a retro high top that hides the toning soles and actually looks cool. See?
The EasyTone Freestyle Hi has the Reebok patented toning technology and is designed for walking and everyday activities. EasyTone Freestyle Hi designs come in luxurious metallics and prints—easily the most fun and craziest of all the toning shoes out there (gold? silver? yes!).
- Balanced Ball-inspired pods with Moving Air Technology are designed to tone and strengthen your butt, hamstrings and calves with every step.
- Leather upper for the ultimate in comfort and durability
- Midcut design for added stability; dual Velcro straps at ankle ensure fit
- Specially designed Women’s Specific Last technology ensures optimal fit and function for a woman’s foot
So, I tried the shoes out in several places: the airport, a workout, and a casual dinner. First, the airport. It was the perfect place to sneak in a workout with toning shoes! Lots of walking, lots of toning. The shoes were great too at a casual dinner, cute and functional. But they were not the best for a workout! The instability that creates the toning is great for walking, but not great for sprinting–too unstable!
Asked if they work, my opinion is that they probably shouldn’t replace your existing workout routine—but why not add them in for good measure? I work out all the time, so I don’t know that my butt and thighs are more toned than normal. The number one benefit? I feel myself sucking in my abs when I walk in them! It must be the instability working.
I think I’ll keep rockin’ the EasyTone Freestyles because they might work and they certainly do look good!
