Occasionally I publish Research Lists wherein I am looking for some fashion item for myself and either need your help or to share my work with the class. Today, we are doing something different. Today, you must go purchase these shorts:
My husband wears what I would consider “real” shorts for damn near everything. Yard work, hiking, walking the dog—things I would need to put at least athleisure shorts on to do in Texas (sweat)—he does it all in just regular old man shorts (regular old, not old man). But I think men’s shorts have long been made more comfortable and mobile than ours ever were.
Enter this under $25 short from my favorite teen mall brand/where I buy a lot of clothes that I purchased with some hesitation because ew elastic waistband in the back. However, over the span of the last few weeks I realize I have worn these shorts over and over again, reaching for them over any other short, because they look polished while being as comfortable as literally anything else I could put on.
Because the fabric is soft and not rigid, they are not hot in the inferno that is Texas. Most of the time I have a button up or tee tucked into the front and the back waistband is covered anyway. Worn with a bikini top, the fit is such that it does that thing where since they aren’t tight on your waist you look skinnier because no fabric is digging in, so no one notices the elastic in the back anyway. Perhaps the, er, kicker: the legs are loose on even these muscular (dare we say protruding*?!) thighs.
So I ordered two more pair in different washes. Inevitably one will end up the favorite and the others relegated to when-the-favorite-is-dirty status, but at that price who wouldn’t buy a backup or two?!
*I re-read the linked blog post and would like to go back 12 years and re-write it, but posterity is posterity so I leave myself and my poorly-written blog post exposed.
