Well, well, well. You see, the first flowers my first love ever gave me were orchids. I was pissed—”I have to keep it alive?! You gave me a love fern*?!” I jokingly (not) teased him. But seriously, why couldn’t he bring me dead (“cut”) flowers like the rest of the male flower-giving population? Ah, he wasn’t like the rest.
Turns out the rest of the world is catching the love fern buzz, as Pantone has named Radiant Orchid the color of the year for 2014. It’s a sign of happy, bold, vibrant times to come (more here: Radiate Happiness in Radiant Orchid). Converse has already released a Radiant Orchid shoe, and we’re sure to see plenty more fuschia-pink-purple hybrids where that came from. A few of my faves follow …
A note about the rug in the background: it’s made from overdyed Persian rugs, a process I learned a lot about when I wrote a story about it in 2011. I love the idea: they take worn-out Persians and re-dye them, far more colorful than the original, and stich a few together to create a new kind of rejuvinated rug. LOVE the idea and execution! Now to find $599 for this one…
*If you don’t get this reference, go rent How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days immediately. Not only will you get the love fern joke, but you’ll notice that my yellow gown as seen in the header of this blog is a direct result of years of searching for an appropriate Kate-Hudson-at-the-ball replica.
