IN A TIME THAT IS NOT NORMAL.
We are in wild times. And yet, my daily life is pretty normal: walk Nali, work remotely maybe in the backyard, work out, work some more in my beloved home office, play with nali, art …
A list of my at-home resources is forthcoming, but I agree with my neighbors and family who are saying with a hint of exasperation: who has all this extra time?? Sure, maybe the weekend looks different without in-person socializing. But the weekdays are largely the same for people who have always worked remotely or for themselves. Even people I know who are affected by layoffs, closures, etc etc are hustling, building, learning.
The only thing that isn’t normal is how much we’re all talking about the same damn thing, because there’s nothing else on anyone’s minds. That said, love in the time of coronavirus is also not a thing (new/finding, anyway).
Now, for my pretty normal gratitude list on this Feel Good Friday:
- Fit Fam workout! When your brother knocks on your office window and demands you come over for a workout RIGHT NOW, you do.
- Latte Link – open when you get there, closed when you leave!
- HPG & BFree, pre-closure
- Shoal Creek walking trail (still open!)
- Nali dawg, who has always enjoyed high levels of human-at-homeness, but is currently enjoying longer walks than ever in the mornings
- Anderson’s Coffee, which is my absolute favorite source of coffee beans in Austin, moved completely online in response to the coronavirus. In solidarity (ok, or jonesing for my beans, whichever), I placed an order, which instead of walking 2 blocks to purchase, I now must wait for them to package, box up, give to FedEx, who will take it to their facility, put it on a truck, drive it around Austin, before dropping it off on my porch two days later having touched infinitely more hands and surfaces and possible sources of infection. Can’t they just leave it on the curb for me to pick up? Nonetheless, I am grateful for their amazing coffee beans. I mean … Peruvian Fair Trade Organic Woman-Owned Co-op coffee that tastes amazing? AS IF I COULD PASS THAT UP.
- Taxes! They done.
- Sobriety. 13 days sans wine, not sure how many more I will go (initial promise: til my mama finishes HER taxes). I had so many feelings I wasn’t allowing myself to feel, and now that I can’t dull or hide them in booze, I feel a deep sense of relief. I am back to a baseline happy, despite all the craziness around me.
- Wine discounts! Don’t be fooled—I’m fully taking advantage and stocking up on rosé for days because I’m still optimistic this summer will feature plenty of patio-sittin’ and rosé-sippin’.
- Instagram … the convos I’ve been having in my DMs are more prolific than ever (since no one else has things to do?) and I am HERE for it. Connection in any form FTW!
- History, my absolute favorite art piece I’ve ever done. Pic coming soon—it’s behind glass, so it’s really hard to photograph!
- A lazy, rainy, relaxing weekend ahead!
