A wine country getaway sounds good by itself, but add in a beautiful cottage set amidst rows of grapes with grassy yards, a sprawling patio, and a hot tub?
I couldn’t even have imagined the beauty I was in for when checking in to the Benovia Winery Vineyard Hideaway Cottage! I mean, this is the front yard:
We were in Sebastopol for the West of West wine festival, held at the Barlow (which is an awesome apple factory turned marketplace and event space). It showcases the West Sonoma Coast vintners, who primarily make pinot noir and chardonnay.
There were some wine seminars, including one on comparing chardonnays. As a non-chardonnay fan, I wasn’t overly excited about this, but I sampled, and learned (all from the Charles Heintz Vineyards, a table my group spent a lot of time with):
Later we sampled at Benovia, and I loved their chardonnay so much I bought a few bottles. Probably the first chardonnays every purchased by yours truly. Back at the Grand Tasting, we met a bunch of awesome winemakers and tried some great pinots. It makes you never want to buy grocery store wine again (even nice bottles).
But one of the best surprises of the weekend was having a gorgeous, relaxing home to return to after the Grand Tastings. We’d grab a few bottles of wine, snacks, and sit on the porch…
In the provided bathrobes, of course.
When we got cold (I’m warming my toes in the picture above), we’d just warm up in the backyard hot tub. (Tattoo courtesy Inman Family Winery)

Then it’s back to the front yard for a giggly photo shoot. Life is good on the green, green grass of a beautiful Russian River Valley vineyard with good friends new and old.
