The Perfect Shirt: Elizabeth & Clarke Unstainable

I own this piece of magic.

It is like literally legitimately the perfect shirt. Ever since reading this article in April about the benefits of not choosing your outfits for work every day, I’ve been pondering if I could ever do the uniform thing like men do and just buy several of the same shirt and pants and wear them every day. I don’t know that I could, but if I could, this is the shirt (fwiw these are also the pants but I don’t think they make them anymore).

The shirt is The White Unstainable by Elizabeth & Clarke, and it is awesome. It is Crepe de Chine and machine-washable and dryable, and it is easily the most comfortable button-up tailored for a woman that I have ever worn (I have a few actually-well-fitting hand-me-down men’s button-up shirts that are equally comfortable, but obviously less tailored). It looks good at work, at parties, and at casual.

And true to its name and claim, it actually doesn’t stain.

Is that a rhyme?

It has three buttons right at the bra spot that pops open no matter who you are, so it doesn’t.

It has long enough sleeves.

I got it through Kickstarter, but The White and three other styles are available on unstainable.ec for pre-order. One of those styles is the Liz Lemon, which is an absolutely perfect white tee that I also got and love but isn’t pictured. It has slightly longer short sleeves, and a slightly longer fit than I normally wear, but is so extremely flattering and comfortable I need at least a hundred so I have them for the rest of my life.

Speaking of Elizabeth & Clarke, they do a really cool subscription service, where you get 1-3 new shirt styles shipped to you per quarter for $20-$30 a shirt (depending on quantity). I don’t know if the Unstainables will make it into the subscription, but it seems like a rad idea.

I’m also seriously chomping at the bit to get the other two styles—a sleeveless button-up and a popover blouse very similar to The White.

If only I thought I could pull off the Uniform look every day … could I?!
