I deeply, deeply love libraries, so much so that I’ve joined the Newport Beach Public Library—even after they denied me a library card three years ago because I didn’t bring a bill with me to verify my address (oh, Newport). You too can become a member. Young patron membership is a mere $35.
And if you do, you can do things like go to author talks!
Or The Witte Lectures 2017, which bring luminaries to town to chat.
You can catch me at a hot-button talk, especially in March, centered around college athletics. As someone once inside the NCAA, I am very interested in his perspective. Sadly, female athletes are hardly the ones at the center of this debate.
Friday & Saturday, March 3-4 | Joe Nocera | Inside the NCAA
Joe Nocera, op-ed columnist for The New York Times, has written numerous columns about the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) and its corruption. Nocera examines the massive following and media draw of the world of college sports – a world that makes millionaires of coaches, athletic directors and conference commissioners, while the players themselves receive only scholarships for their talents-scholarships that don’t necessarily guarantee an education or a diploma. Nocera’s latest book is Indentured: The Inside Story of the Rebellion Against the NCAA.
