Happy Juneteenth. Here’s my text summary: It’s the “ending” day of slavery in the US … after the Civil War and Emancipation Proclamation, Texas ? still didn’t free slaves until June 19 a couple years later so that’s when it’s celebrated. More and more companies are recognizing the day as a way to celebrate Black lives.
Despite all the craziness of the world, I’ve been able to take a bit of a break. The past two weeks have been absolutely wonderful for me. I took a long road trip, and got a lot of time with myself while driving and with my friends while stationary. The time has been restorative, filling me up with love and hope and security. I am unbelievably lucky to have so many wonderful friends in my life, that love me unconditionally and for nothing more than who I am. These friends are absolute magic.
So often when I visit, my time is go-go-go. But this trip, I got to spend long, lazy days with friends, as if I lived there again, and it was the best.
I spent six days crashing with my bestie, and every time I asked her if I should wear something she asked, “Is it comfy?” She gave no effs how it looked—because I look great anyway right?—and just wanted me to be comfy. A metaphor for life, perhaps.
