Yeah, I wrote that. Despite taking almost two years off from an official gym, within minutes of (grudgingly!) re-joining the sport, Aspen CrossFit quickly and seamlessly became my home and the people my family.
Moving to Newport Beach, one of the first items on my agenda was to find the right box to call home (more on that in Fitness Quest OC to come). I settled in at CrossFit Newport Beach. The other gyms I tried were great too, and any of them would have worked. But Newps is where I landed. I wrote about it here, which I wanted to share.
IN a nutshell (if I knew how to code a nutshell into that paragraph, you can bet I would have):
“What CrossFit Newport Beach has is not the barbells and bars I need to do this workout, it’s the people: the ones who offered to delay their own workouts to count for me, the ones who gather on Saturday mornings for the Games WODs, the ones who endure the hell of working out in the dark at 6am together, the ones who come after work and sometimes in dress shoes to make sure they get their workout in … and catch up on their buddies’ days. That’s what CrossFit is about. It’s home.”
And that’s true of other boxes too, especially Aspen (BOWLING!). But for me it’s most true in O.C. at CrossFit Newport Beach.
In other CrossFit news: there’s good news, and there’s bad news.
The takeaway: Everything I ever need, I already have. Gratitude. For what I have, what I don’t have, and what is yet to come.
Finally, CONGRATS TO V for qualifying for Regionals!!!! As your former training partner in Austin and all-around ass-kicker, I couldn’t be more proud. YOU ROCK!!
