A new mud race event challenge thing I just heard about seems pretty similar to CrossFit … the TOUGH MUDDER race series just launched this year and is a 7-mile obstacle course with 17 obstacles designed by British Special Forces to test all around toughness, strength, stamina, fitness, camaraderie, and mental grit. Yikes!
The website says, “Forget about your race time. Simply completing the event is a badge of honor. Not everyone will finish, but those who do make it to our post-race party will have truly earned the right to call themselves a Tough Mudder.” Does that sound like anything you CrossFitters have heard before? Maybe about Murph?
Plus, all the Tough Mudder sponsorship proceeds go to The Wounded Warrior Project, the same beneficiary as Fight Gone Bad. They even have their own Lindsey Smith! (hahaha … About Us on Tough Mudder)
Anyway, participants have to take this pledge:
As a Tough Mudder I pledge that…
* I understand that Tough Mudder is not a race but a challenge.
* I put teamwork and camaraderie before my course time.
* I do not whine – kids whine.
* I help my fellow Mudders complete the course.
* I overcome all fears.
CrossFitters might say the same thing about their workouts, no? I want to take on this race!! Except I’m terrified of crawling through tires. Except that’s why you do things, right? To overcome fear?
Coming to Austin February 5 & 6, 2011. Here’s the course info. Start training now.
