So read an email I sent yesterday about my new favorite(??) coffee mug, an 18-ounce(!!) Rove travel mug. It’s awesome because it works.
Its problem is also that is WORKS.
So the first morning I own the thing, I make some coffee. I pour said coffee into my brand new red coffee mug (flask? traveler? receptacle? what IS the appropriate word here?) and head down to the beach with Nali. I take a sip and SPIT OUT MY COFFEE BECAUSE IT’S BURNING MY MOUTH.
Like not just my tongue, but all around my mouth, the four corners of my mouth (does your mouth even have corners? use this receptacle with hot liquids if you want to find out where they are). Burning.
Being a coffee fiend and 8am, I remove the lid and think, ah, I will let the air cool this coffee off! Nali pulls at her leash, the hot coffee spills all over my hand, burning my hand.
Burning.
In frustration, I don’t know what to do. I put the lid back on, accidentally locking myself out of drinking the coffee—turns out, there’s an awesome latch to prevent spills which won’t allow you to open the lid which incidentally might be protecting you from yourself. I carry a paperweight around on mine and Nali’s walk.
Then I get in my car, with my paperweight/travel mug/flask full of boiling hot burning water. I go to yoga. I run errands. All sans coffee, because, well, mine burnt me in more than one place.
SIX HOURS LATER I decide, hey, maybe my coffee is drinkable now. I am a functioning adult who adulted without coffee today! :::pats self on back while picking up wine order ordered on phone outside of store I had walked out of because it was too crowded:::
Lo and behold! My coffee is drinkable. A lovely, perfectly hot but not scalding temperature. It only took 6 hours.
Nonetheless, this has become my favorite coffee mug. I have simply learned how to use it: allow coffee to come to the temperature at which you would like to drink it. THEN PUT IT IN THE TO GO CUP.
