It’s no secret the CrossFit Level 1 Certification is $1,000, which is a pretty penny for a certification that isn’t accredited. Of course, there are “rumors” (pretty much fact but a question of when) that CrossFit is getting accredited, which would mean that anyone who attends a Level 1 would have to pass a written test in order to label themselves “Level 1 CrossFit Certified Trainer.”
In the world of personal training, there are the hard-to-get certs (NASM, CSCS) and the easy-to-get ones (ACE). They all cost money, but sometimes the amount depends on how much study materials one needs. Where will CrossFit eventually fall in this spectrum?
In that vein, a new personal training certification was recently created called ACT – Athletic Certification Training. ACT is different because it’s free (though you can pay more for more help studying). Here’s the official site: http://actcertification.org/
And one personal training website’s review of the process and certification, which I think is a fair and balanced review: http://www.starting-a-personal-training-business.com/act-certification-reviews.html
It’s an interesting fitness world out there!
