DrumJam

Went to see a friend, Greg Vendetti, play last night at Stubb’s. His set was good–he has a deep, powerful voice that really wraps itself around the crowd. He’s also just a charismatic showman: he is amazingly at ease on stage, talking up the audience and hyping the bands that play before and after him.

Unfortunately, this post isn’t about him, it’s about his friends (one of whom I randomly met on the sidewalk staring at a flyer w/ GV’s name on it) who played after he did.

DrumJam.

They were ridiculously fun. Totally based on beats with a keyboard and a throwback-guitar-style-keyboard (no idea what they call those), DrumJam’s five members jump around, perform choreographed dance/karate/glow-stick sequences, and drum like there’s no tomorrow. Their frontman is one of the most engaging performers I’ve seen, totally into his performance with no self-consciousness.

While the music is good, it’s as much the show that makes the band. Their appeal is a mashup of Ghostland Observatory + Stomp, heavy on the Stomp. But I’ll take DrumJam over Ghostland any day, and I hope these guys soon get the recognition they deserve.
