Design Inspiration // Eclectic Nostalgic Minimalist

Couple a Scandi trip with a house purchase and what do you get? Lookin’ for inspo in all the right places!

My house style can best be described as eclectic: I love clean minimalism, but I love tribal patterns, pom poms, leather, and texture too. I love clean white, but I love bright color and contrasting color and stripes and plaid. I love pieces with historical or nostalgic significance which are rarely minimal. I am, as ever, a walking contradiction.

When I first set out to fill this new house with furniture—I came with naught but the best coffee table of ever—I thought I’d try really hard to pick an aesthetic.

But then I found a badass steampunk crank table of reclaimed wood and metal and glass. So you know I loved that and had to buy it.

And then I found the duvet cover I was obsessed with in Amsterdam, which was blue, so there went my serene, white, minimalist master bedroom.

And then I kinda liked the red traditional Persian hand-me-down rug for my office, coupled with my grandpa’s leather office chair and nindaddy’s (great grandpa) steamer trunk for storage.

And then I gave in to my baser instincts: be eclectic. Just make sure there’s not too much stuff; and make sure there are unifying elements.

Because I am a faux celeb and thereby have rights to naming things, I am hereby calling this new style Eclectic Nostalgic Minimalist.

Here are my top three inspirational pics from my travels:

The duvet airbnb I stayed at in Amsterdam (we know I’m obsessed with it):

The Dutch chairs in this window for color, texture, and style:

Eclectic but clean minimalism in my Norwegian airbnb:

And, last, I didn’t take this one (onekindesign did) but like to think this is the vibe I’ll nail (haha joke’s on me): natural, earthly, calm, all in one:
