My friend Cali is fond of asking, “What would your last meal on earth be?” I’m usually stumped, and when she answers her own question with something akin to my grandma’s homemade lasagna, I struggle even more—does my own grandma’s Heavenly Hash/Mississippi Mud cake count?
But given time to think about it, I realized that my Death Row Meal, my last meal on earth, is accessible to me every time I visit Austin, Texas. It is this:
A whole wheat crust stuffed crust spinach and mushroom pizza from Mangia Pizza.
I love this pizza so much, I have more than once frozen a whole or leftovers and checked or carried it on an airplane in my luggage.
Last weekend, however, I was bummed—while thrilled—to find out that there is just one Mangia Pizza left in Austin. We’ve watched the local chain rise from one store to eight and fall again, down to one and a stand in the airport (they don’t carry the aforementioned pizza, btw). I hope Austinites keep buying pizza from Mangia, so I can eat my fave every time I come home!
What’s your Death Row Meal? If it’s available, I’d encourage you to eat it soon! Why wait for the end??
