you are my celebrity

Dear Lyssa,

… I’d encourage you to really acknowledge that it’s HARD, that these are the defining moments of a life, and you are allowed to—encouraged to—do what’s best for you no matter what, no matter how different it seems for other people. Leave jobs, take risks, move—no one understands these and you don’t mind.

… So you choose to do and do not—until you’re ready to make some other decision, the choice is YOURS. Do not lose this freedom, for it is what makes you distinctly you.

Love, Lyssa

I found a love note to myself when I reorganized my closets. It’s dated 8/26/12. Seven-and-a-half years ago, life was hard and scary; I was heartbroken but optimistic.

Life isn’t so different now, though my heartbreak may look different and my difficulties at least partially shared by the entire world. What strikes me about myself is that I appear to have always had an innate trust in myself, in the world, in choices and their repercussions.

May I hold on to that faith; and may anyone reading this find a bit of it too. Especially amidst an unprecedented global crisis.

Love letter to and from Lyssa
