Stopped into CrossFit Portland this morning for a strength workout:
WOD 3/10/2010
post load and J’s best quotes to comments
A) Hang Squat Snatch – advanced: work up to a max single; then 1-1-1 @ 80% of today’s max
beginner: 6-8 sets of 3; focus on skill.
B) OH Squat – 3 attempts at max 15 rep weight.Flexibility/Mobility Focus
Thread the needle
Cat stretch/circles
Spinal rocks x 40
I could not snatch to save my life. Was it because it was from the hang position? Because I haven’t lifted heavy in at least a week? Because I suddenly suck at CrossFit? I worked through the frustration, cleaned up my form, but before I could really max out, we moved onto the next thing: 3 x 15 overhead squats. I rocked 65#s, and Rochelle, trainer/owner, came over and worked with me on my breathing: big breath, hold it all the way down and back up. I’m not sure I like it, but it DID keep my core more rigid than before, which was the point, so that was interesting.
While there, I met the owner of Hopworks Urban Brewery and scored a free beer sampler and some pints, so naturally I had to squeeze in a visit before catching my flight back to Austin.
Most of the beers were too, um, HOPpy for me, but the food was OUTSTANDING. They had happy chicken tenders! Local, cage-free chicken fried in buffalo sauce? Literally I think I’ve been looking for that since 2003. Hurrah!!
A fitting and wonderful end to Girls Weekend o10.
