A special section for special times. This is what kept me covidtained? this week.
Workouts
- BFree Zoom Saturday am class with Shelby <<livestreams are WAY easier to do than recorded class… accountability!
- Third Monkey for strength
- Buti Yoga (free 2-week trial, or search youtube) for silliness, release, and ABS, yo I forgot how sore your abs get when you’re doing all this crazy spiraling stuff
- Thug Yoga on IG Live (for now); getcha some friends, a beer, and do a hilarious flow with one of the best yoga teachers ever
- Long walks down Shoal Creek with a pupper!
Socializing
I was initially resistant to the “facetime happy hour” idea, kinda rolling my eyes (despite the fact that Bromance and I do this all the time, pre-coronavirus). But after a multiple-hour facetime on Tuesday, I felt full up with happiness and friendship, so I’m back on board.
The instagram challenges seem silly—and they are. But WHY THE HECK NOT?! I’m very fond of the ugly/embarassing post challenge… not only is it HILARIOUS, but it’s that whole not-always-perfect-on-social-media thing but if social media is the only way you’re seeing you’re friends, it’s a fun reminder to see them at their “worst”—how you probably see them in real life, because we’re not perfect all the time!
Community
FACEBOOK GROUPS. Austin Digital Jobs and Thirtyish are two facebook groups that I LOVE, and I never thought I’d be endorsing facebook groups at this age! ADJ in particular is a professional group that has been real lifeline in this time. At 50K members strong, it’s active, engaging, and hilarious.
We have dreams of making our Tomorrow’s Leaders facebook page something similar, where people can connect, engage in professional development, and be entertained. I’m leading this charge, so go Like the page and join the movement if you haven’t!
Entertainment
- I cried laughing at The National Cowboy Museum‘s tweets, where the head of security took over social media HashtagTheCowboy. Similar vein: Aspen PD’s facebook, which has been hilarious for years.
- All American. Friday Night Lights but make it Crenshaw.
- Ruth Reichl’s Save Me The Plums is easily the best memoir I’ve ever read—of course, the magazine + food focus is close to my heart.
Other: Ecomm & Yard
- Nordstrom Rack is having 20% off of everything, including Clearance… I mean, it’s supporting the economy, right?
- I have been House Project-ing hard. Build a new wine rack? Reorganize the closets to accommodate? I’m in.
- Over time I have grown (har) more and more interested in gardening or at least growing fruit trees and I am more obsessed than ever. On two separate occasions, I have put on my gloves and manually pulled weeds out of various areas of my yard. I ordered an avocado tree online (highly DO NOT recommend. This poor tree was puny with like 5 leaves at the top and immediately went back to Lowe’s where it surely will be marked down to like $2 and I will re-buy it) and am contemplating where I want to put all of the agricultural trees I want to buy: olives! figs! YOU CAN GROW EVERYTHING!
