A special section for special times. This is what kept me covidtained? this week. This week’s covid convo is on unnecessary divisiveness and polarization.
Workouts
- So much cycling… I’m so grateful for the quick-hit cardio and the Pelo community but every single time I get on that damn bike I hate it for at least half the ride—no matter how long the ride is—and every single time I get off, I feel like I can take on the world (and need a shower). It’s pretty great. Any Peloton-ing readers out there? I’m LyssHatesCardio.
- I learned a new yoga move called baby grasshopper—which still happens after a whole lotta years practicing—and it was super fun and easy with this 30 minute Yoga By Candace class.
Entertainment
- I can’t even imagine how long this list took to compile: 80 newsletters to subscribe to/read, by single operators (ie not media conglomerates). Is this the future of how we get our news as we trust the media less and less?
- Did you watch DMX & Snoop “battle” (it was very civilized… they both old now) on IG Live? We know I love DMX and I caught the replay here. Nelly is also doing a live youtube on Saturday at 8pm CT to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the release of his diamond-certified debut album, Country Grammar, with a live performance of the album in its entirety with his band, for the first time ever. We also know I listened to that album on repeat driving to basketball practices and games in high school …
- A new women’s soccer team is coming to LA, and it’s majority women-owned, including celebs and former soccer stars. Badass. We need more news like this!
Social
- Quarantine is the mother of invention … this dude just glued some pallets on top of barrels and is floating around Town Lake selling frozen water! (some with booze in it) The ingenuity! You better believe I’ll be having one next time I take the SUP out.
- Speaking of inventions … St. Agrestis is now making BOXED cocktails. I love this 20-cocktail box of Negronis for $60. That’s $3 a cocktail! Unfortunately for New Yorkers only rn … c’mon Texas, catch up! If we can can cocktails, we can boxtail ’em too.
- My West Coast friends are starting a book club, and I’m the annoying one who has read most of their initial suggestions. Nonetheless, I just finished Maid and thought it was a really great memoir, gritty and honest while introspective, never preachy, providing a glimpse into the chaotic cycle of poverty. Loved this quote: “It seemed like access to healthy foods, gym memberships, doctors, and all of that would keep a person fit and well. Maybe the stress of keeping up a two-story house, a bad marriage, and maintaining the illusion of grandeur overwhelmed their systems in similar ways to how poverty did mine.”
Daydream Thursday
- Booked a Port Aransas beach getaway! So excited to soak up the sun and sand with a small quarantine-approved group.
Shop shoppin’ away
- Ready-Made, who I’ve written about before here, released another collection and I love the emerald and black bands! The BFF necklaces are too cute too.
Week 19: the polarization convo. Week 18. Week 18: the wrong convo. Week 17. Week 17: the convo. Week 16 (the rant). Week 15. Week 14. Week 14+. Week 13 skipped (it’s unlucky anyway). Week 12 (not really about Covid). Week 11. Week 10. Week 9. Week 8. Week 7. Week 6. Week 5 here. Week 4 here. Week 3’s here. Week 2’s here. There is no Week 1 because we didn’t know back then.
