As the vaccine rolls out, I’ve had friends in the medical profession react across the spectrum: immediately receiving it; or sharing content about why they won’t be doing so. I want to leave some research here:
- Death rates remain consistent year over year … where did the seasonal flu go?
- Side effects of the vaccines + the below from an NP friend who posted the link to the study but it’s behind a paywall, so I’m just sharing her quote:
- T-cells vs antibodies: “About 50% of people who tested negative for COVID-19 antibodies had high levels of T-cells in their blood. Why should you care?
- T-cells provide immunity to COVID-19
- T-cells could be present due to previous infection with other “common cold” coronaviruses
- Some people infected with COVID-19 (likely asymptomatic folks) may not mount an antibody response, but may produce T-cells instead. Meaning that studies using antibody testing to determine IFR (infection fatality rate) could be drastically underestimating the number of people infected and therefore overestimating IFR. This has significant policy implications.”
- Last bit of food for thought: How did we end the swine flu pandemic in 2009? We stopped testing. “In late July, the CDC abruptly advised states to stop testing for H1N1 flu, and stopped counting individual cases. The rationale given for the CDC guidance to forego testing and tracking individual cases was: why waste resources testing for H1N1 flu when the government has already confirmed there’s an epidemic?”
Entertainment
- Sacks and the City podcast episode 16 is a banger where I get made fun of quite a bit. Enjoy Lost and Found.
- Is the Bachelorette Finale “real drinks” pack overpriced and ridiculous? Yes. Never even mind that it’s a two-day finale. Do I want it anyway? Weeeellllll …
- Super cheesy Christmas movies are salving my soul right now. But I’m also watching all the Chicagos, A Million Little Things, and still have to catch up on Seal Team! So much entertainment to enjoy.
Feed Me
- I’ve been having trouble falling asleep … not saying Nightfood Ice Cream is the answer, but it’s free to try!
- Everyone is talking about holiday baking … should I be doing this?
Shop, Shoppin’ away…
- Kind of obsessed with this FJ.
- Can’t believe I’m saying this but—my closet feels pretty full right now (I DID do some shopping in Rio…) I don’t wear anything but athletic clothes, and on the rare occasion I do, I have enough to wear. However, Nordstrom Rack is sneakily discounting random items way, way down on their Promo page, so if I was shopping, I’d probably be trying a few things.
- But also my inside mocs are really old and maybe due for an upgrade?!

Week 13 skipped (it’s unlucky anyway). Week 12 (not really about Covid). Week 11. Week 10. Week 9. Week 8. Week 7. Week 6. Week 5 here. Week 4 here. Week 3’s here. Week 2’s here. There is no Week 1 because we didn’t know back then.
