This goofy boy stole my heart on Dec 7, or maybe Dec 6 when I saw his profile online. It was another 10 days before I was allowed to foster this “behavioral issue” dog, and another 9 after that before we sent the “we will adopt him please” email.
Today, January 3, 2023, is the day Bob officially became ours, mine & Brian’s. My boys. Happy Gotcha Day, Bob, Byobi, Bobb!
But he belonged to my heart on Dec 7. He does have issues, but who wouldn’t? He lived in the shelter for fifteen months before we got him. At the same time, he’s an angel—a too-smart, very attached, anxious little angel.
He’s going to be a lot of work.
He wakes us up on the half hour every minute past 7:29am that we try to sleep.
My voice is hoarse from yelling LEAVE IT on walks, in the backyard, at the office window.
He has yet to meet a friend he considers a friend.
But he snuggles.
He tries so hard not to bark that he whimpers.
He listens and learns and minds.
He runs like a janky jackrabbit but can easily clear a 4-foot fence in pursuit of a cat.
He’s 67.4 lbs of pure, insecure love.
I love him so much.
Now, we have to figure out the best training option … we want to train him like a service dog, and are trying it online with K9 Training, then may add in person with Beyond the Dog (great ig) or Elite Dog Training once he’s more settled with us.
