For a mere $30, you can be a part of that book. AUSTIN MAKES A BOOK is basically a crowd-funded and sourced social experiment for writers and artists of all types.
The idea is to invite each and every Austinite to contribute and fund a single page in a 100-page zine-book. Since the theme for the book is completely open, contributors can submit whatever they want: a story, song, a picture of their feet. Aside from objectionable content, the first 100 people to submit their piece and along with their page’s funding will be published. Then, Phenix & Phenix Literary Publicity–the company behind this genius idea–is going to have a party to celebrate and give everyone their awesome books!
Page-funding is $30 each, and together our submissions will cover the cost of printing and shipping the books, which come from Blurb.com. Together, the participants’ contributions will cover a print run of exactly 100 high-quality, soft-cover “zine books.” Any donations over that amount will go to Room to Read, a global outreach focused on building libraries and classrooms in developing countries. Submission guidelines here. (They are minimal).
“Austin is the perfect city to do something like this,” says Breanna Rollings, Phenix & Phenix’s Marketing Director. “Not only do we have an abundance of undiscovered writers and artists here, we also thought it would be neat to launch a crowd-funded art and literary project. Austinites are all about coming together to support local creative ventures, be it a new band or food served out of an AirStream trailer. So we thought, why not a book?”
