All the way from Aspen, the buzz on hopdoddy burger bar is loud. So obviously it was one of my first stops as soon as I got back to town. In the old Cissi’s Market spot on South Congress, hopdoddy burger bar is serious about meat but whimsical without being cheeky everywhere else. Great vibe, and it was a “slow” lunch day with a line wrapped around the interior. Our server told us it wasn’t busy unless the line is out the door.
We started with cocktails, to celebrate the summer weather!
For me, on the left, a Double Fina Margarita, $7: Silver Tequila, Freshly-Squeezed Lime Juice, House-Aged Orange Triple Sec & a Splash of Fresh-Squeezed Seasonal Citrus. For my gal pal, a Sangrita, $7: Silver Tequila, Freshly Squeezed Orange and Lime Juices, Pomegranate Grenadine, Served Up with Ancho Chile Salt Rim. Both cocktails were delicious and STRONG.
For burgers we split two:
On the left is the better of the two (though both are good), the Magic Shroom. $8, it’s a beef patty with Pure Texas Goat Cheese, Field Mushrooms, and Basil Pesto. On the right, the Buffalo Bill ($9.85) is a Bison patty with Maytag Blue Cheese, Frank’s Hot Sauce, Apple-Smoked Bacon, and Sassy Sauce.
We ordered them sans bun and were told they’d put “lots” of lettuce with it, but that didn’t really come to fruition. No matter, the flavor combos were good and creative and we were happy anyway. If you like flavor flare with your burger, hopdoddy can’t be beat. (If you just want meat, you probably still can’t beat P. Terry’s)
Bonus? hopdoddy supports local and sustainable farms, orchards, ranches, and dairies.
I can see why hopdoddy has become such a hotspot: it’s good, clean fun food!
