I’ve tried a lot of yogas–a Bikram devotee in Austin, I’ve dabbled in others as well. Here in Aspen, I’m just starting to try out yoga places, and first on my list was King Yoga in ABC, the Aspen Airport Business Center.
It’s got an outdated website (fix coming soon), a goofy logo, and an unassuming green exterior with those plastic race flags out front. Despite what could have been read as bad signs, I hit up Power Yoga with Aaron today, and it was 80 minutes of awesome.
They say:
“POWER – This class kicks butt! A challenging sequence of postures designed to detox and strengthen the body in order to achieve balance.
All classes infuse Aaron’s music mix with cool colored lighting and heartfelt teaching to create the King Yoga Experience.”
I say:
Aaron is both soulful and skilled as an instructor, and the class was fast-paced but not overwhelming. It was a tough yoga practice, but with built-in breaks. By the end I was dripping in sweat, slightly sore, stretched, and totally relaxed. It felt wonderful. The Power Yoga was the perfect mix of meditation and play, stretch and strength, restorative and difficult.
I may be shifting away from the intensity of Bikram in my yoga practice, but I’m not in it for the gentle candlelit stretch of some yogas either, so this was the absolute perfect mix. Intense without being crazy, gentle without being boring.
Power Yoga, Tues noon-1:20p; Sat 9-10:20a (there are other yogas all the rest of the days of the week)
