You’d think it wouldn’t be that hard to find grass-fed, free-range beef and chicken here in Aspen, but it has been a little bit challenging. Surprise then that Belly Up, Aspen’s premiere live music venue, is a purveyor of grass-fed beef and free-range chicken. They even have a buffalo chicken pizza! (You may or may not know that I consider free-range buffalo chicken tenders the holy grail of free-range chicken. I had a nasty Plucker’s habit in college, probably an order of buffalo chicken tenders a week for a whole semester, but since I’ve gone free-range only I’ve only found them ONCE, at a brewery called Hopwerks in Portland, OR, and they were amazing.)
However, this fateful night I went for the burger, a 1/2-pound, 2-patty pile of deliciousness even without the bun. BUT oh the bun! It was doughy and delicious, crisp with a soft center (I only know this because the Vermonster ate it and told me, OF COURSE). And the accompanying sweet potato fries were divine–long, thin, crunchy, with just enough salt.
I’m surprised more people don’t eat at Belly Up, if my burger was any indication of food quality. It WAS $15 for a burger and fries, but it IS also Aspen. I mean, it cost me $12 for a buffalo burger and sweet potato fries at 520 Grill, and they’re supposed to be cheap (had to get the buffalo to get free range, had to pay $2.25 to get sweet potato fries instead of regular).
… bottom line? Food at Belly Up is GOOD!
