The best deal under $10 is the 1/2 off happy hour pizza at Cipollina (http://www.cipollina-austin.com/). Order one between 3:30 and 5:30 PM and you can get a large (it’s a big large!) pizza for less than 8 bucks. Add tax and tip and you’re still under $10 bucks total. And you can get any pizza 1/2 off. Any.
Fittingly, ten of you responded with some super deals — thanks to Katherine, whose post linked about 6 deals into one, I know about Joe’s 2 for 1 burgers; from Alex, 2 for 1 burritos at the Screaming Goat; from B, we find out about free happy hour today on Friday at Yoga Vida; and more–check the comments section. But ultimately Sameer’s 1/2 price pizzas won the gift certificate because “you can get any pizza 1/2 off. Any.” and I think that sounds really freakin’ delicious. Sameer–email me!
Speaking of winners … in another This is Life in Austin first, I judged my first cocktail competition last night! Other than being a floozy (that makes twice in one week I’ve called myself that), I’m not sure what exactly qualifies me for the job, but who is really gonna complain about that?
Grey Goose and Austin Monthly got people from all over Austin to submit drink recipes, and the top six came to SIX (ha) last night for the prelims. From mixing vodka with champagne (who woulda thought?) to muddling it with lime and sugar to throwing into a margarita-style mix to finding pureed pears in the middle of the summer, the mixologists were nothing if not inventive. I can’t tell you my fave, but I can tell you about the finals: Thursday night at SIX from 7:30-10:30pm. The first hour is private for the mixologists and their friends only (plus the judges and their friends … hint hint …) but anyone can come after that.
And since they’ll be mixing that smooth Grey Goose with some potentially crazy mixers, you definitely want in on this…
