So good you’ll forget: the ALOE source

Y’all know that my face sometimes explodes, as detailed in this gem of a post here. Probably because I force it to try all these new chemical free beauty products which was apparently acceptable to my face in my mid-20s but come my 29th birthday (btw I didn’t get anything on my list thanksalotmomanddadnooneelsebuysmepresentsanyway), my face started the we’re-allegedly-almost-thirty-rebellion of breaking out like we’re thirteen*. Thanks, friend who asked me what we were doing for my 30th birthday party AT BRUNCH ON MY 29TH.

Anyway, enter Texas-based The Aloe Source, a natural skincare line promising me inner health and outer beauty. Well, yes, please. No seriously, I love aloe in skincare products and don’t know why more people don’t use it—aloe is like a little miracle plant, as anyone who has ever had a sunburn knows. Southern hospitality had products to me almost as soon as I heard about the company, and I was thrilled to try the Clarifying Cleanser ($28), Toner ($26), and Vitamin C Antioxidant Creme ($40).

These products are almost non-memorable they work so well.  I diligently wash my face, and it’s clean and smooth and not dry or oily. I spritz with toner (directly onto the face, I know, some people find this weird, I find it efficient), sometimes it tingles a little but never painfully. I smooth on antioxidant creme and it too is neither too rich nor too thin. These are some Goldilocks products here. So good you forget you’re using them.

They are not chemical-free, but they are cleaner than your average skincare line. Because of the fake (celeb) eyelashes I can’t use oils on my face, which is a key ingredient in a large number of natural skincare products, so I gave these a shot. If I quit the eyelash addiction, I will probably go back to cheap-and-easy Burt’s Bees Orange Oil cleanser, although it may be too much for my oceanfront life (the richness was necessary in the dry mountain air). TBD.

*Yes, I also drive a topless jeep and it’s entirely probable that all the smog/toxins/shit in the air that was once kept out and off my face by things like doors and a roof are now attacking my pores daily, and I should wear a ski mask to protect my face. Equally probable that will never happen, but other ideas for how to protect this almost-30 face are welcome and in fact encouraged.
