Achieving milestones!
I preach all the time about how much I love King Yoga, but something truly magical happened there yesterday (besides the fact that I later learned I was yoga-ing in the same room as Gretchen Bleiler had earlier … I wear her Oakley pants to ski!) … in my years of doing Bikram Yoga and stretching and whatever else-ing, I have never been able to touch my head to my knees, sitting or standing. I’m sitting there with my legs out in front of me, reaching toward my toes, and all of the sudden my head is almost touching my knees. So I go for it. My hammies are quaking and shaking like I’ve never seen, but I GET MY HEAD TO MY KNEES!
I was so incredibly excited, I showed That Ripped Guy of Mine(TM) when I got home. And tried it again today after my workout. I could still do it! THEN, I stood up and tried … AND I COULD DO IT! I could touch my head to my knees while standing!!
Magic, magic flexibility improvements. I have King Yoga to thank, I’m sure.
I also held a handstand for my new personal record of 7 seconds!
And I also did the Bear Complex for the first time ever today. Don’t know what that is? Well it’s tough.
Bear Complex:
5 Rounds
7 reps of this combo of movements: power clean, front squat, push press, back squat, push press
No time, just max load
Me today: 65-75-80-80 (fail at 5) -75
I was super frustrated because the cleans and squats were easy-peasy but the presses, particularly from behind the head after the back squat, were what rocked me–and what I failed on in the 4th round. GRRRRRRR!
Of course, I can’t take it too hard on myself, I haven’t done shoulder work since around March because of the shoulder injury. So of course they’re weak. But it’s just such a bummer!
Also, in an update to working out in a normal gym while doing CrossFit, a nice old man watching me workout after my last set of Bear Complex told me, “That was beautiful.” Awwwww! CrossFit is so pretty. 🙂
