This:
The #aerieREAL campaign isn’t just an ad launch but a complete overhaul of the way aerie, the lingerie(ish) spinoff of American Eagle, treats its models. The new crop of models on the website and in the ads are not retouched, so there are moles, piercings, tattoos, skin wrinkles, and more. And they look like you, and me, and your sisters and girlfriends and wives.
The idea is to encourage young women to remain self-confident and healthy, and challenge the notion of who is a supermodel, or even a model. We are all models.
So, here’s me, modeling a bra (yo, selfies are hard):
1. this is the aerie softest lace perky bralette, which is like a really, really cute sports bra that manages to give you boobs and cleavage but still be comfortable. For traveling and under peekaboo tops it’s a godsend. The lace, however, does NOT work under normal tops—hello weird bumps.
2. I also scored the Lexi pushup bra in natural nude, which I am currently wearing and loving. I love my body and myself but I am not posting a picture on the internet of me in a nude bra. Sorry dudes.
3. My aerie Shine Stripe swimsuit is not my fave, but it’s fun to have in my living-at-the-beach arsenal. It feels very retro. I’ve moved over to the swimsuit school of less is more, so I’m having a hard time wanting to wear a full-butt bottom. Cheekies and teeny weeny butt bikinis are it for me! The top is also very bra-like, which makes me uncomfortable (do NOT surf in this top. Underwire bruise FAIL). Also this model might not be photoshopped, but as critics of this campaign have pointed out, she’s still real skinny. But people are. At not real-skinny (and with a torso half that length), this bikini still looks good on me.
I’m already a fan of aerie undies (celebooty) and now I’m crushing pretty hard on aerie bras too. Serious sales are happening right now, so click on over: aerie.com
