Adult Volleyball Camp | Feel Good Friday 102124

This past weekend, I played 22 hours of volleyball—drilled, more accurately. My doubles partner and I attended Better at Beach’s 3-Day Mini Camp and it was some of the most fun I’ve had playing volleyball in a long time. I learned SO MUCH, and have so much to work on now, not the least of which is changing my platform slightly, being a lot more patient, doing less … wait, are those volleyball cues or life cues?!

So it goes.

I’ve been doing so much recently, but what a joy! relief! it was to focus on nothing but this camp, the physicality and the building of new skills. 8 hours, 8 hours, 6 hours of volleyball per day requires adequate hydration, sleep, and nutrition, and aside from learning, those were my only focus in the days leading up to and of the camp. It was such a cool respite from my million-miles-a-minute existence.

Of course, I’m grateful for the miles I choose: ACL Fest with friends, Great Western Festival with family, joining a new gym, doing yoga, working long hours on hard problems that have a big impact on the business, to name a few … all fun, and all exhausting.

You can imagine my surprise when I woke up this Monday morning after probably the greatest physical feat I’ve completed in a few years to almost no soreness, and feeling refreshed and at peace. I had done the appropriate stretching and re-feeding with healthy food, and am headed to a hot/cold recovery session this afternoon, but I have to think the mental break and singular focus were a huge part of this sense of ease.

A good reminder, for that busy bee that is me.
