Imma let you in on a lil secret. I recently wrote about TC’s Lounge for Austin Monthly’s Cool Things issue, as it is an undoubtedly Cool place. I got most of my information on the joint from Achachay!’s drummer, one Mr. Ryan Greenblatt. While his sunglasses may arise a Stevie Wonder in you as to why he’s wearing them (har, har), his drum skills are legit. And as a former Tuesday-night-resident, ‘Blatt knows a bit about TC’s.
Long story short: it’s the rest of funk rock band Achachay!’s first times playing in the venerable old bar that was once on the Chitlin’ circuit and is rumored to be the oldest operating bar on the east side, so the mix of old and new, cold air and no a/c, funk and rock, is gonna, well, rock. Oh, throw in some of Baby Girl’s delicious home cooking (fingers crossed for spaghetti) at just $5 AND a BYOL situation and you’ve got yourself one hell of a Tuesday.

Speaking of cool musicians to check out, go see Aly Tadros at Saxon Pub TOMORROW, Wednesday night. No idea what time. Pick up a freakin’ google, wouldja?
Here’s why I am the numero uno WORST person to write about music ever. Her publicist sent me this: “Aly’s Things Worth Keeping came out at the end of 2009 and has most of the guys from These United States… including Duane Lundy who produced Aly’s album as well as their last album, Vandaveer’s latest, Ben Sollee’s latest… you catch where I’m going with this… just check out Swingset, if it doesn’t resonate with you, we’ll move on.”
1) I read that as “has most of the guys from the united states” which completely baffled me–is she nationalistic? a huge slut?
2) once I re-read it properly and realized it was referencing a band, I nodded my head like I understood (to the empty room) but had NO CLUE what it meant, much less who or what Vandaveer or Swingset (hello, playground?) was …
Nonetheless, when I listened to the girl’s record, I liked it. And that’s really the ultimate smell test. If someone pitches me, a Britney Spears/Taylor Swift-loving blogger, an indie folk singer and I like her, she must be pretty damn good.
