I cannot get over the fact that it is SNOWING here in Aspen. It’s May 12! The mountains are closed! What is the snow doing here?! Though tempted to use the cold and my inherent desire to be warm as an excuse not to go workout, the thought of seeing my river (yes, it’s mine now, after a week) with snow along its banks was too tantalizing, and if I’m down there, I might as well be working out, right?
Warmup: run down, up, down, the crazy stairs, and jog to the bridge (~1/2 mile) + Burgener warmup
WOD:
15 pushups
15 stick push presses (working on form, elbows up)
50 M sprint
15 boulder jumps (20″ish, but I have to jump farther away because of its position on the slope of the mountain, so I should get 24″ credit I think, for the triangulated distance …)
15 Sumo Deadlift HighPulls with funky trapezoidal rock ~15 pounds
50 M sprint
10 pushups
10 stick push presses
50 M sprint
10 boulder jumps
10 SDLHP
50 M sprint
5 pushups
5 stick push press
50 M sprint
5 boulder jumps
5 SDLHP
Time: 9:37
OMG, this was a surprising smoker for me. I can only imagine it’d be even better with weight, but being out in the elements and sprinting from the bridge to the rock along the banks of the Roaring Fork River is worth the sacrifice in weight.
And, I was in a t-shirt by the end of the workout. No, alright, it’s not THAT cold.
Once I recovered, 3 x 30 second handstand holds (1 foot on the bridge truss)
Walk 1/2 mile, play on some boulders with Nali, then SPRINT UP THE HILL next to the crazy stairs. A silly, fun, tiring end to a great workout.
I am loving Nature’s Garage Gym. At this rate, I may never hit an actual gym again!*
*we all know this isn’t true, but it was a romantic notion
