As I prepare to trek back to Aspen for my last weekend of skiing during the 2012-2013 season (goodbye, unlimited ski pass), it reinforces the notion that Newport Beach is now home. I’m just visiting a place I used to love being called a local.
As my actual home comes together more and more, it helps reinforce the notion of home as a sense of belonging. I had prints mounted on foamboard from Nations Photo Lab, and arranged them gallery-style in my living room. There’s definitely room for more.
I finally refinished the $20 Goodwill piece I re-imagined as a TV stand, repainting (spray-painting, to be clear) it “almond” and sanding down some of the edges to expose the wood, as if it’s a beat-up old piece. The almond with wood peaking through blends perfectly with the (faux?) marble top.
And in the truest sense of making something out of nothing, I disassembled the fabled purple table into a half moon desk. In a teeny-tiny office, it maximizes space while giving me the light from the window (were I taking the photo during the day). Some day I will buy a desk that fits the space, but for now, it works!
Lastly, I spent three afternoons pulling weeds. I’m not done but I’ve filled up my allotted TWO trashcans. Sigh.
